Photographer Alice Wielinga takes you to this insightful work of North Korea on her series “North Korea, a Life between Propaganda and Reality” as the Winner first prize Photo Folio at Les Rencontres d'Arles.
The photographer tried to reconcile the self-perception and the reality she encountered in North Korea, a reality and a country that nobody seems to really know. She expressed this by creating detailed composite images that blend North Korean propaganda paintings with her own photographs.
